In my mind this was a pretty clear case of inattentive driving on the part of the third vehicle that smashed into the two stopped vehicles. I assumed that would be a simple matter that would be settled quickly, and life could move one with insurance paying for damages. But as you can guess, I was wrong about this assumption.
